The Kalmar War 1611 - 13

The reason for this war, which Christian 4th forced through against the will of The Council, was partly that Sweden would close all harbors for Danish trading vessels, partly the controversy whether Finnmarken belonged to Norway or Sweden.
But actually it was Christian’s intention to conquer Sweden. He succeeded in capturing the frontier fortresses Kalmar and Elfsborg.

The Norwegian peasants slaughtered a platoon mercenaries under Sinclair, which Sweden had recruited from Scotland, and the Danish navy was master on the seas.

But Denmarks funds were soon dryed out, and Christian had to abandon his great plan of conquest. At the peace at Knærød in 1613 he got a sum of money to evacuate Elfsborg, and Sweden abandoned their claim to Finmarken.
