Sweden breaks away

Whe the message of king Hans’s defeat in Ditmarsken, which the rumors made even bigger than it was, reached Sweden, Sten Sture and his friends got the courage to rebel.
The clever and rebellious bishop Hemming Gad united Sten Sture with his greates amemy Svante Sture, and soon Hans’s power in Sweden was over.
Longest Stockholm Castle defended itself, which was guarded with manly stamina by king Hans’s queen Christine of Sachsen (sister to Frederik den vise (the Wise)).

When Sten Sture the Elder died 1503, was first elected as principal for the country Svante Sture and after his death 1512 his son Sten Sture the Younger.
King Hans continued the fight, but did never get the upper hand in Sweden.

Also in Norway revolt broke out, but it was calmed by the king’s son Kristian, who in several years governed the country, where he was tough against the German merchants.

As Lübeck with the Vendic towns helped the Swedes, he also had to fight them.
King Hans build large warships for the income of the crown and by that founded the independent royal navy.
It was let by the Skåning Jens Holgersøn Ulfstand and the native of Funen Søren Norby, and was al together equal to Hansestæderne’s fleet, and claimed under terrible lootings the control over The Baltic Sea.
Shortly before the death of king Hans peace was restored with both Sweden and Hansestæderne.
