After Erik Emune’s effective cleansing of the heirs to the crown , only children were left. Therefore Erik Lam was elected king. He was closest to the crown together with Harald Kesja’s only surviving son Oluf, whom he fought and defeated.
Erik Lam came at his mothers side from Svend Estridsen.
The church, which had Eskild as archbishop, had good times. Lund’s Cathedral consecrated in 1145.

The Venders had also good times at Sound and Belt, from where they looted the shores, without Erik Lam being able to keep them away.

At last Erik Lam renounced the crown to go to a monastery.
He is buried in St. Knuds Church in Odense.

Erik Lam was son of Hakon Jyde and Ragnhild, who was daughter of king Erik Ejegod.
In 1144 he got married to the German count-daughter Luitgard. They had no children. 
Together with a mistress Erik Lam had the son
Magnus.
